How to Clean Your Kitchen Efficiently
The kitchen gets used all day, so crumbs, splashes and fingerprints can build up quickly. A simple order of tasks helps you clean more efficiently and keep the room feeling fresh.
1. Clear the surfaces first
Put away food, dishes and anything that belongs elsewhere. Clearing the worktops gives you room to clean properly and helps prevent crumbs from being pushed around items.
2. Start with dishes and the sink
Load the dishwasher or wash the dishes, then clean the sink and taps. If you use a cleaning product, follow its label and allow the recommended contact time before rinsing where required.
3. Work from high to low
Wipe cupboard fronts, splashbacks and other higher surfaces before cleaning worktops. This way, any dust or crumbs that fall can be picked up later rather than landing on an area you've just finished.
4. Give appliances a quick refresh
Wipe fingerprints from the outside of appliances and clean small spills from the microwave once it has cooled. For ovens, hobs and specialist finishes, use products and methods recommended by the manufacturer. Never mix cleaning products, especially bleach with other cleaners.
5. Finish with the floor
Sweep or vacuum crumbs before mopping with a suitable floor cleaner. Use only a method appropriate for your flooring, and avoid leaving excess water on wood or other water-sensitive surfaces.
A quick daily kitchen reset
- Put food away and clear the worktops.
- Wash dishes or load the dishwasher.
- Wipe the worktops and table.
- Check the sink and taps for splashes.
- Sweep visible crumbs from the floor.
You don't have to do a full top-to-bottom clean every day. A short reset after cooking, plus a more thorough clean when needed, can make the kitchen easier to maintain.
